so, this is gonna sound really stupid, but i've been wondering ..do you pay tuition before the college year starts or do you have to have the money by the end of the year?

They usually have you pay at the beginning of each semester. They don't have you pay tuition for a whole year, just a semester at a time. If you are low income, schools will sometimes come up with an alternitive plan where they break up your payments into smaller amounts that you pay throughout the semester.

BTW: There are few stupid questions that people ask, and this isn't one of them. This is an intelligent question. Don't put yourself down...

Generally, they have you pay the tuition before the year/semester starts.

They don't want you having free classes ;]
