2.You'll be able to change it to a shorter bar once the swelling goes down, and your tongue isn't as sore.
3.Alcohol-free mouthwash is good, Listerine can be too strong.
4.Salt water is also good, but make sure it's sea salt, and tastes like tears :)
5.The discharge is also normal, just put some mouthwash or saltwater solution on a q-tip. and clean around the barbell once or twice a day.
6. If you mean drinking as in alcohol, I really wouldn't recommend it over the first two weeks. I did that, and I got a bad infection :
TMZheartsJDMS022108 answered Wednesday July 2 2008, 3:37 pm: I would suggest that you dont drink until that discharge goes away. Also i wouldnt drink for about a month or so until your tounge starts to heal. Alcohol free mouth wash should be okay but it might bother that discharge. The discharge im not sure if its normal or not but i got it as well. Dont change the ring until about 6 weeks, i know it seems pointless but at the same time its for a reason. Thats the one they put in, also it is clean and if you take it out and change it you could open it up to a world of infections.
