Question Posted Thursday June 26 2008, 2:26 pm

so im gettin my wisdom teeth out tomorrow. the surgeon gave us a brochure to look at, and in there it says during the operation im not allowed to have any make-up, nail polish, or jewelry on. i was just wondering if anybody knew why that is? i mean, what's gonna happen if im wearing nail polish ?? it just sounds crazy.

Hm that's kind of odd. I got my wisdom teeth out and I had all that stuff on and I was perfectly fine. Maybe that's just if you want to be really safe. But It's definatley not a Must have to thing. Hope I helped!

They will be touching your face a lot so
they probably don't want to risk getting
make-up in your mouth and possibly causing
infection.

They don't want to be responsible for
jewelry. Its usually customary not to
allow jewelry where oxygen may be used
either. Its rare but sparks can cause
fires. They see jewelery as possibly
causing a spark.

They don't want you wearing polish
because since you will be under
anesthesia they want to be able to
check your capillary refill.Capillary
refill is the rate at which blood refills
empty capillaries. It can be measured by
pressing a fingernail until it turns white,
and taking note of the time needed for
color to return once the nail is released.
Normal refill time is less than 2 seconds.
Its just a way of keeping watch over you
while you're under. :)
