the morning after pill.

Question Posted Monday June 16 2008, 4:34 pm

so i had sex with my boyfriend the day i think i was suppose to get my period.
and the condom broke, so we went and got a pregnancy test and i used that first just to be sure i wasn't pregnant before we spent $50 on the morning after pill.
the test came back negative, so then we bought the pill, and i took it as instructed.
well that was two days ago and two days after i thought i was suppose to get my period..and i havent gotten my period yet.. is this normal?
is there a good chance that i'm pregnant?

Don't worry, the morning after pill, as the columnist below said, is full of hormones (estrogen) and will likely make your period irregular for one cycle. It is like taking several birth control pills all at once, which tricks your body into thinking you are already pregnant. The excess estrogen, in addition to any stress you have, will cause your period to come a few days later than expected. The morning after pill (I'm assuming you took Plan B) is very effective, but not 100%- you only took the pregnancy test two days ago, almost right after you had sex. That would have been too soon, so go to your gyno or free clinic and ask for a urine test. They can tell around 10 days after you have sex. Anyway, it's a good thing you took the morning after pill to be safe- it is very effective, so chances are you are not pregnant. Again, wait a few days and monitor when your period comes (it will be irregular due to the hormones). And to be on the safe side, go get a urine test (most effective) to be completely sure.

the morning after pill is extremely effective. its also full of hormones that are quite likely to mess with your period schedule.

Well that was really intelligent to take the test first goodjob (: !. Okay so uhm your problem...If you were suposs to be getting your period that day then Theres a rare chance you could get pregnant, not saying that you cant. Sometimes your period is a different time each month and it comes at different times and weeks in between. So thats something to keep in mind. Also They say wait 2 weeks after sex to take a pregnancy test. I know now you can find out sooner butttt i dont think you would be able to tell the morning after, The sperm can live in a females body for up to 7 days. And last ut not least the Morniing after Pill, Usually works no doubt about it. Buttt My friend recently got drunk and had sex with someone and took the morning after Pill and thought okay im done with that. She missed her period two weeks later and found out she was pregnant and got an abortion. Thats unlikly like i said. And you said you still havent gotten your period even though you were supossed to get it that day...hmm well sometimes like i said rare again but your body can ovulate but you still dont get your period. There are many causes which are common to that there are...
weight gain
weight loss
change in diet
change in exercise routine
stress
anxiety and/or trauma experience
sickness (from a common cold to much worse)
ovary cysts
But the odds are against you, I would wait a few days and take the test again or now if you think its been enough time. I know it would be hard to wait. Well goodluck. I hope everything turns out okay and your not pregnant. And i hope i helped.
AHH GOODLUCK !.
