(17 female)
I'm short, I'm skinny, I'm clumsy, I wear baggy jeans and a band shirt and old sneakers everyday and have for just about my entire life. My hair is barely shoulder-length and layered a lot and about 4 different shades of brown because of messy dye-jobs. my eyes are green, i have a ton of freckles across my nose, and 8 piercings in each ear.
i'm not exactly a prom person... i'm actually a little bit of a mess. but this year i want to be different, instead of just looking like the grungey, messy, sardonic girl i always am.
forget turning heads, i want to break necks.
prom is rapidly approaching: i have two weeks to not make an absolute retard out of myself.
i have no expierience buying dresses or shoes or doing hair or make-up.
...i really want to have one of those cinderella moments where everyone turns around and goes "whoa, oh my god!"
my date is really tall and wearing a white suit, do we have to match?
hollister_lover09 answered Thursday May 15 2008, 10:50 pm: Alright. Call to get your hair and make up done somewhere.
Go buy your dress, not online, it'll take to long to get here.
At my school, the BIG proffy dresses and in. But at other schools, they wear straight gowns. So either way, try finding a BIG dress. They are BEAUTIFUL and everyone will be looking if you stand out!!
You do have to match, it makes you guys look soo much better. But if hes wearing all white, white vest and jacket and pants, thats fine. Pink and dar blue looks good on any girl. Cut off a piece of your dress, somewhere you cant notice and take it with you when you get your hair done. If your dress is a BIG one.
Look on the internet at different hair styles. Have one in mind or even a picture. Try to find your face shape, so you know how it will look on you.
Have him call in flowers now, it would be better to have the color of your dress in the flowers, but since you really only have two weeks and still need to get a dress, I dont think therell be enough time to get the color in them. Have him get white flowers, or just tell him to ask the flower to people to do it really pretty.
oxyou answered Thursday May 15 2008, 10:33 pm: okay, here is what you do: you have 2 weeks until prom, so that is enough time to get an appointment at the hair salon asap. when you go to the hair salon, i would recommend getting hair extensions. this looks cute on people who have lots of layers but don't want them anymore. also, tell the hairdresser to die your hair ONE color that looks rich and dark and not more than one color. probably the darkest out of all your shades so you can't see the other ones. you should also start to go tanning. i think it takes like 4-5 times going tanning for it to actually work, so you might want to start going as much as you can like maybe everyday because you only have 2 weeks. tanning isn't really a big deal even if you are scared, everyone does it and its not hard or anything and it doesn't hurt. maybe if you have a friend taht wants to go with you you should do that. oh and also if you can't get to the hairdresser before prom just wear it up in a pretty fancy ponytail or bun so you won't be able to see the layers.the good thing about layers is that you will be able to make pieces hanging. you also need to buy a dress and shoes. hurry up though, because you only have 2 weeks and most things are sold out. ask your mom or friend or aunt or whatever anyone like that if they want to go on an emergency prom shopping spree. pick out thedresses you like and try on as many as you can, and pick the one that looks best on your body and that you like the best. it's totally fine that your short, there are prom dresses out there that are meant for short people so thats why you just need to go try some on. ask the store clerk you are looking for dresses that would fit you. you may also have to get it altered. and then find shoes that match your dress, makes sure you get heels. get a manicure and a pedicure, just a french with no color unless you want to do a color that matches your dress but MAKE SUREE it matches, it will look weird if it's like one shade off. the nail people will prob know what colors and designs to do if you describe yoru dress to them and tell them your going to prom. if you end up having to get your dress altered (go to a tailor) then make sure you tell them wht day your prom is so they will have it done in time. shave everything on your body(croch too if you don't already), get your eyebrows waxed, and make sure you keep your skin clear for prom.this isn't a necessity like all the other things i wrote but if you want too you could go to the salon the day of prom and have them do your hair, you should prob. do that if you did'nt get a chance to get it cut and died, because you won't be able to put it up in a bun or ponytail yourself and make it look good. at the salon they can make any type of hair look good. but if you do get it died and get extensions, you can just leave it down or straighten it or do basic curling. go to a really good makeup store like ulta and if you don't know what shades of anything to get for makeup, the person who works there will know the perfect shades if you tell them what your dress looks like, what color , etc. you could also get your makeup profesionally done, but if you don't want too get someone whos good at makeup to come over and do yours for you, or if you think you are good enough at it do your own. the most important thing is eye makeup though, basically just make sure you have enough makeup bought before the day of prom, and if you don't get a chance to go to a good store like ulta and you have to go to somewhere like riteaid or cvs, then just make sure every shade of eyeliner, eyeshadow, glitter, blush, and lipgloss matches your dress. also get mascara and an eyelash curler, and if you don't have clear skin coverup concealer and foundation. kaelyn5640 answered Thursday May 15 2008, 6:32 pm: wow. i just helped one of my friends with a problem like this. you should wear a bright color like hot pink or lime green or even just an orange color. dont wear a poofy dress, find one that will fit your body! and with a bright color you make still bring in some of your own style. like you could wear new black converse or something. i know it might sound ridiculous but its really cute i promise. you should probably die your hair the darkest color of all the different ones you have in your hair now. and get it done in an up-do like a bun. dont worry about a corsage bc your date will buy you one. you do though need to buy him a boutenir (idk how to spell that lol) and try to order it so that it matches your dress. abitsarcastic26 answered Thursday May 15 2008, 2:57 am: Alright prom is my specialty!! I just helped out my cousins girlfriend who by the way is a total tom boy. I have helped her out in a matter of day. First things first he is wearing a white suit which think of it as a blank canvas.
You are looking to wow people so go for a fun bright color. Something sexy but not over the top. Try to avoid poofy dresses they are extremely uncomfortable, you wont be able to dance or sit in it. Go with something that will fit your body type and skin tone.
Next color your hair. Buy it over the counter the darkest brown you can find. Color it and 2 days prior to prom color it again so that the pieces you missed or didn't take the color takes on your second try. I would suggest to go for a sleek, classy and sexy hair do. Try a sexy bun or even something a little funky.
Make up is the fun part after you choose your dress. Go to your local department store like macy's dillards, saks or what have it and ask them what would look great with the dress you choose and they will do your make up if you buy the product. I bought a lip gloss and eyeliner which you can use after prom is over.
If you go into prom totally polished and done up you will wow everyone. And since you said you where clumsy dont wear white!!! A girl at my table had a beautiful white dress and dropped french dressing all over it.
