I feel like my mind is messing with me. I am 5'5'' and about 135lbs ( 15/female) . Now, technically that isn't overweight, but I used to be 4'6'' and 140lbs a few years ago, and my brain is stuck on that.
Back then I told myself I was healthy, but now whenever I look at myself in the mirror or in a picture I think I look obese. I can usually keep this to my self, but when I am PMSing, it gets worse. I feel like such a fatty all the time. I dont really have any confidence. I dont wear make-up because I have a disease on my skin on my face , so that doesnt help. My family and friends are concerned, but I just cant help it
=/
A don't have this myself but one of my friends has this, she see's a therapist who helps her to cope with it.
Have a chat with your GP and mention BDD to him, if he thinks this is what you have you will probably be refered to a therapist (which means you wont have to pay if you live in the UK, not sure how the health service works anywhere else though).
Coucelling and therapy will help you to see yourself in a better and more realistic light, it's usually cognative behavioural therapy as this type of therapy is used to change our thought patterns.
It is important that you do get proffessional help because if it is BDD, that can lead to other mental health problems such a depression and anxiety. [ chakra's advice column | Ask chakra A Question ]
Holly22co answered Tuesday April 29 2008, 4:51 pm: your not fat, your healthy, but if you really want to tone up, shed a few lbs, and be healthy, then all you have to do is eat right and exercise. i know that sounds cliche, but i did, and i lost 10 lbs in a month :) all i did was eat healthy and run/walk for about an hour 3 or 4 times a week. trust me, youll see results :) as for makeup, try just wearing mascara, if you can. it can make a WORLD of difference, if put on right. also it would really even out your complexion if you got a tan, they make your face look slimmer and deff more pretty/girly. but as i said, only if you can. if not, try using jergens self tanner for face. it will give you a healthy glow :) good luck! -ali 16/f [ Holly22co's advice column | Ask Holly22co A Question ]
Ice232 answered Tuesday April 29 2008, 4:49 pm: Well, unfortunatly, society is against you. Probably the biggest reason that you now see yourself as obese is because we constantly see images of toothpick girls that are supposed to be what girls are to aim for. When you're younger you don't typically both with that sort of thing.
Anyways, so there's a lot of ways that you can change the way you feel about yourself. One thing you can do that I particularly like just as a self esteam booster is just find one thing about your body that you like every day. Don't focus on any parts that you don't like, just the parts you do like.
Another way to change the way you think is actually with a healthier lifestyle. Proper diet, proper sleeping habits, and proper excersize all effect the way we think as well as the way we look. If you want to know more about all this feel free to message me.
Finally, one last thing, it really doesn't matter how tall you are or how much you weigh, what matters is just believing in yourself. It really shows if someone can actually believe in their looks. I've seen some people that were about 5'3 - 5'4 and weighed about 200+ but because they could accept their own body and believe in themselves they actually looked really good. Hope this helps you.
