my friend works at a Novotel Hotel in North York, Toronto and he has said that there are cameras in every single hotel room that the front desk clerk has access to. But I have also heard that due to invasion of privacy, they are not allowed to have cameras installed in every hotel room. Which is true?
karenR answered Tuesday April 15 2008, 12:44 pm: That would be a gross invasion of
privacy. I honestly doubt that is true.
If it were people would be complaining
and it would have been on a news program
by now!
They may have cameras in the hallways
for security reasons, and in the parking
lots. But in the rooms, I don't think so.
I worked in a hospital where they installed
security cameras. If they do have cameras,
even in the hallways, they have to have
that clearly stated with signs or they
cannot use anything in court taken from
those cameras. This is in case of catching
a crime being committed or something. This
is because of privacy laws.

So I'd think that they'd have those same privacy laws in Toronto, too. But i'm not sure. Things may be different there.
Hope I made things clearer.
