You've got me a bit stumped with this one. www.wikipedia.org has information about pretty much everything, but it's not always accurate. Other than that you could use google, but you'd need to be a bit more specific about you want to know.
I'll post more sites if I think of any.

well, that is hard to answer because it seems like the question is very vague. Basic knowledge about what? do you mean random facts?
