where can i find artist

i am looking for a web site that can list alot -and i mean ALOT- of artist and examples of their work. sort of like an encyclopedia for artists where i could be a more informed about art....

I mean art as in fine, preformance, visual, graphic art... stuff you see in the met and other galleries and exhibitions...

search myspace for music, all the bands have samples on their pages, and you can search by genre.
