scoliosis or not?

Question Posted Monday March 24 2008, 5:54 pm

hey all.
right im 16, im an athlete i do alot of sport my life revolves around sport and self image. basically i have an abnormally large back for a start. this is my story;
basically i was in school i had cramp in the trapezius so i rubbed it to make it stop hurting. Then i noticed my spine was out of place this was about a week ago, so i went to hospital and had an x-ray. i found out i had kyphosis which is a forward curvature of the spine. and then i asked why i had lateral curvetures of the spine and he went thats normal then walked off and didnt even answer any of my questions. so i look it up and find out that lateral curverture of the spine could be asymmetry or scoliosis. i have a picture of my back and because of my kyphosis you can clearely see the curv so if some of you could take alook and if you could give me your opinions, i am going to see the doctor tommorow becuase the hospital was poor. But it would realy help me if i got some peoples opinions.

Hey there. I'm not a doctor, but I know that scoliosis is fairly common when it comes to cases of spine curvature. Most of the time you can't really physically see signs of slight spinal problems with scoliosis. Some of my friends have it. Anyway, since you can kinda somewhat see where your spine is curved, I would think that it's scoliosis. I just looked up some pictures of scoliosis x-rays, and yours does not seem to be very severe. It's definitely something, but that doesn't mean that it will hinder you as an athlete. If you're concerned about how your back looks, it really took me a while to even tell where your spine is messed up. And it doesn't even look weird at all. Anyway, your doctor can definitely tell you more, but I've seen people with way screwed up spines that can still play sports and stuff so I doubt it's anything to worry about.
