ants!

Question Posted Thursday March 20 2008, 8:10 pm

this may be a silly question or perhaps impossible to answer, but here goes: we have a very extreme ant problem. they turn up everywhere, bathroom kitchen, living rm, bedroom, etc. all of our food is in tupperwares and none gets left out for longer than a few minutes, but if a fork gets left on the table they swarm, or a dish in the sink, and even a diaper in the bathroom garbage. question is, how do I get rid of them without killing them? I strongly believe in not hurting any living thing, but these guys drive me nuts! any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I have heard that a jar of sugar kept outside will lure them back out, but I really have not tried it. If you can seal where they are coming in from with tape or glue that will help..I have done that. Keeping the house meticulously clean is a pain in the butt, but if you do it long enough, they may eventually give up trying to come back and go outside for the sugar jar. Really it may come to buying ant baits that kill the colony and Queen ant. They are invading your territory, and even Peter Singer recognizes that your interests are equal to those of animals.

Hmm well silly questions call for silly answers. Well since you dont want to harm them maybe you could lure them into some kind of container by filling it with what ever attracts them and maybe after collecting a good amount of ants close the container and maybe bring them outdoors and release them but not too close to your home, maybe a nearby park? Also try and check for areas where they mostly are, chances are thats where their secret hideout is. OR.. maybe have a pet anteater.
