Question Posted Thursday March 13 2008, 4:17 pm

i wasn't sure what category to put this under, but i think school is a good one. you see, i got all worked up about high school because i thought that it would be what i saw in the movies. i don't have any brothers or sisters and my cousin, who's like a sister, because she lives across the street from me, was homeschooled. So, the only vision that I got to see of school and such was in the movies and the television shows. So, like every little kid, that's what I always thought. I was just thinking though, I'm almost finished with high school. I'm going to be a senior now and I was just thinking about how high school wasn't what I thought it would be. I'm not saying it was the most terrible experience ever, it just wasn't all that great, considering though that I've been going to the same school since second grade, and it's an all girls school. So, I've never had a lot of experiences that high school students get. I've never had a homecoming. We don't even have a cheerleading squad. We don't have pep rallies. We don't have all those things that schools get. We have dances and stuff at school and we obviously have prom and interact with boys from the all-boys school, who we associate ourselves with, but it's different, because we don't really interact with them as much as we should as a school. Like, on the weekend, we do stuff together, but there aren't that many school sponsored activities we have. The point is just that we never got that experience. I k ow it sounds silly, but I've always wanted to be a cheerleader. I'm sure I could do it. I've been dancing since before I could walk and I know some things. I even tried to get a club at school and start it one year, but it didn't work because the school wouldn't sponsor us, or they wouldn't give us any money or provide us with transportation. I would be willing to do like a really rigorous program over the summer to prepare and stuff for the college auditions, but it's just that when I think about it, I feel like I'm too old. I was all exited about it and then I start to wonder why college should be any different? Why would college be funner? I'm staying where I live for collage, and I'm happy about that because I love Miami. But, it's just that it's not going to be that different. if anything, we definitely won't have homecomings and pep rally's. I've been doing robotics, which is like we build robots, at school. But, I hate it! It's so annoying. I don't even know what I'm doing with the robot. Everyone else on my team just does the work and doesn't let me help. There's only two of us there because the other girl never shows up. She just donated a whole bunch of money so she wouldn't have to come to build it. But, I feel like I want to be part of a team. Like, I sit there, and I feel like I'm not really an aspect to the team. They love me and everything, because I always bring them lunch, and I design our uniforms. But, it's just I feel like I go to those competitions and I don't care. I don't get exited about the robots because that's not what i like. It's not even something I made and I could be proud of. I'm just there to be like the servant. I want to be part of something, you know? Something like a sport, but not like a game. I would like something like dance competitions or cheerleading competitions or both, but at least I would feel like if I knew what I were doing and I was using teamwork. But, sometimes I feel like I'm too old, you know? Not that I am old, because 17 is young. But, I mean, that's it's like too late to try to squeeze myself into some team of people who may not know me or they're just going to be like who is this. Because at school they don't have these types of teams. They have a dance team, but it's not really for people in my grade and they're like the laughing stock of the school. I would have to go to another place and there I would have to start all over and have to get to know everyone and build my trust, you know, like get them to like me. Any ideas?

I'm not really sure what you are asking.. Do you want to know if college is going to be different?

First of all, I'm sorry that you didn't have a good high school experience! But let me tell you, college is completely different. You get to start all over and nobody really knows what you were like/who you hung out with in high school.

I don't know what kind of college you are going to, but people in college are VERY friendly and open, because nobody knows anyone else and they're all looking for new friends. But remember that you have to APPLY yourself. You get what you put into it. You can just expect people to approach you all the time. It works both ways, you have to get out there. However, if you aren't living on campus, you will lose a lot of the social opportunities, just because you aren't surrounded by people your age all the time.

Like I said, I'm not sure how big your school is, but I'm sure they will have tons of clubs that you 'd be interested in.

Well, good luck and I'm sure you'll have a blast at college! Remember, you get what you put into it so make it fun!!!
