Alright, so I took the ACT today, and it was horrible. I mean, everything about it was bad. I ran out of time(so I had to guess) on every section, and the math portion was crazy hard, and I can't focus at all. I have friends in pre-calculus right now (I'll be in it next year), and they said that half the stuff on it they didn't even know what do. I bought a computer disk set for practice with the ACT and SAT, but haven't used it much cause I've been busy. But I was wondering, does anyone know any tricks to help he read faster AND comprehend the info that I read. Because that was what made me probably get most of them wrong. Any other helpful hints will be appreciated considering I'll have to retake it again anyways. :[
as for the reading, i've always been told to underline things that you know are important, and mentally note where they are in the passage. the first time i took my ACT, i didn't even get to read the last two passages and just had to fill in random bubbles. so this method really helped (on my second go at the test.. and then the third, haha).
but don't worry, next time you'll be way more prepared. i'd definitely use the practice disk you have, they really do help. most people take it 2-3 times (for me personally, third time's the charm- my score went up two points from the first two tests, where i got the same score, haha). good luck! Holly22co answered Wednesday March 12 2008, 11:50 am: i know this sounds cliched', but getting alot of sleep and eating certain foods really help! go to bed early the night before, then maybe take a shower in the morning if you want, it might make you feel clean & refreshed, because lets face it, no one can concentrate when they feel gross. some foods that are good for stimulating your brain are eggs, oranges, blueberries, tomatoes, milk.. so try eating a breakfast of like, eggs, blueberry pancakes, an orange & a glass of milk. or something, haha. you can get creative. but other than that i dont really know any other great tips..meditatings good. just sit on your bed & focus on your breathing; block out everything else, for about an hour. studying might help.. xD. anyways sorry its long, i hope i helped :) [ Holly22co's advice column | Ask Holly22co A Question ]
