how to pictures in movies

im starting to make videos on post them.but i want to put pictures in them.like if i want to show the viewer something it will show a picture and then go on with the rest of the movie

What type of editor, if any, do you use?
If you use Windows Movie maker, you can split the video, insert the picture and voila. I don't really make 'professional' videos, so i wouldn't know for any other editor. But if you want to use Windows Movie Maker, it's free and on most normal windows computers.
