Getting into one of these schools is hard because there's so much competition, and many of the students at the top look alike. The trick is to make yourself stand out in some way. A lot of people have mentioned joining clubs, playing an instrument... The important thing is to have really invested yourself in something, for example, playing trombone in the orchestra for four years, or being a competitive rock climber. Doing something unusual, and doing it exceptionally well help, but aren't extremely necessary. After that it's basically a marketing job, to show how what you've done is special.

Anyways, don't sweat it too much, and try to enjoy being in high school. Best of luck!

A 4.0 GPA isn't going to cut it. You'll need at least a 4.4, which means you'll need to take AP courses to boost your GPA(Advanced Placement classes. At least that's what it's called here in CA.

And join clubs, do community service, etc.

Adding on to BrunetteBeauti's answer:
Try to join diverse clubs, and volunteer organizations look AWESOME on your transcript. We have a Zonta club at my school (for girls) and we do things throughout the community, like serve food at a homeless shelter, play bingo with old people at retirement homes, etc. If your school has one, it would be great to join it, and if your school doesn't, it would be even better if you could get a sponsor and start one.

As far as being diverse, you need to have good grades of course, but if you can also play sports, play a musical instrument, join a foreign language club, start your own club, win awards, become valedictorian, etc. then that will make you stand out way more. It's not just about SAT scores, though if you kick butt on the SAT it will look great too. I know of valedictorians that did not get into Harvard, Yale, or Stanford because they had the grades but not the extracurriculars. So extracurriculars are very, very important!

It's good that you're thinking about college already, and I wish you the best of luck!

For Harvard you need a 97.66 average and a 2050 on your sat.

FOr Yale you need a 96.90 average and a 2140 on your sat.

For Stanford im not sure what you need but most likely its in the a to a+ range.

also you need a lot of extracurricular activies such as clubs. if you can try to join sport teams, if youre not naturally athletic you can join walk-on teams. good luckk..
