I really think you should worry less about what other people think. If I worried about that, I'd never get to listen to any of the music I like!! I'm 22 and my favourite music ranges from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. I've been to see David Cassidy in concert twice (with my Mum) and Donny Osmond once (again, with my Mum).

I have virtually no friends who have heard of half the music I listen to and yes, I have been made fun of because of it. But you know what? Music should NEVER be just about the here and now. The history of music is so incredible that to let songs go 'out of fashion' in the way that clothes do, would be wrong and, if you ask me, completely disrespectful!

Music should be appreciated like art. It's your interpretation that matters and if you know that you like it, forget what anyone else says!

Okay, the first half of this doesn't really answer your question, but it's advice I think you need to take: Why would you be unpopular if you don't like music others listen to? I mean, trying to like something that you actually don't is only lying to yourself. I kind of know how you feel because my sister listens to all the 'cool' music, you know- the stuff that's always on the radio and whatnot - and she mocks me because I never jump on the music bandwagon. And the best part is, despite my different taste in music, despite the fact that most people wouldn't define my taste in music as 'cool', I'm here, I have friends, whatever. Don't let others control your emotions. They're yours, after all. Changing yourself for others doesn't affect them, it affects YOU. So keep that in mind.

HOWEVERRR. If you're REALLY desperate and the above paragraph affected you in no way whatsoever, I'd reccommend shoving all the 'cool' songs on a playlist and listening to them nonstop. Most music WILL grow on you if you give it time.

If you think you'll be unpopular for having a different music taste than the rest of those sheep, then I think you have other, bigger issues to worry about.
It's YOUR music taste - not theirs.
Never change for anyone.
You can give it a listen but if it's simply not your thing, that's absolutely fine.. and if they were good friends, they'd understand.

You think people will make fun of your music taste? Don't change your taste, in that case, change your friends. Besides, who cares about being unpopular?

listen to what you want, and what you like! if your friends dont like you because of what kind of music you listen to, then they really arent your friends at all. im a country fan, by boyfriend listens to rap... we're together. haha listen to what makes you happy!
