sweet sixteen ideas?

Question Posted Friday February 29 2008, 5:33 pm

i'm turning 16 in december and i'm planning a sweet sixteen [or will be soon].
i don't really want a theme party, but i don't want something too simple. i want it to be memorable and not tacky.

my mom is renting a dance hall and there's gonna be a dj and stuff, but i have a few questions.

1. is it better to have a sit-down dinner or buffet?
2. is it kind of corny to have like the macarena and cha cha slide and other things like that to get people involved?
3. favors. i have no idea what to get. my mom said something filled with like candies but i don't know if i want to make my favor edible.
4. entrance ideas?

1. a buffet seems good, so then everyone doesnt have to eat all at once, and the same time, if they get hungry through out the night they can eat some more!
2. i also do not think its corny to do the cha-cha slide, i like the cha cha slide becuse it has some more ance moves in it , the macarana, isnt as fun beccause its the same thing over and over again. i would reccomend cotton eye joe, if you know that, its some what country
3. edible favors = good!
IDEA - have the favors handed out in the begining, and each bag have a ticket inside, then in the middle or at the end of the party, call out one winning ticket, and have a bigger favor for them, something along those lines, would seem fun to me =)
4. entrance --> there are so many suggesinos, and styes, like the answer before me, try webites and tv shows t give you inspiration, as well as your persoal likes.
GOOD LUCk . HAVE FUN
and let me know what you decide and how everything goes! hope i helped

1. I think a buffet would be better.
2. Those are really fun, so play them! Also, the YMCA is pretty sweet :)
3. I think that if you had edible favors that people would be really happy with that. I know my friends would. So little bags of candy and stuff is cool. I believe you can get little dinner mints and stuff with your initials in them... if you want to go all out or something.
4. The best entrances are on the MTV show "My Super Sweet 16" so you can get some awesome ideas from that. Many of those are way too extravagant for people who actually know the meaning of the word "budget", but maybe you could borrow somebody's sports car. Haha.

1- buffett will work better i think. people get what they want and as much as they want. no need to fuss with a sitdown

2- its not corny! when i was 16 and went to a million parties everyone had them!

3- entrance ideas..hm
maybe get a couple of guys to roll out a red carpet and the dj kind of shines a spotlight on you while a song of your choice plays and you walk with an escort, or you can have everyone outside(obviously not if it will be really cold) but then you could pull up in a limo if you want to have one rented and everyone can oo and ahh kind of thing.

1. its better to have a buffet because then people will take the foods they want. and if people dont want any food (because sometimes people dont eat at these types of things) then you wont waste food by setting a plate for them.
2. no its not! theyre fun.
3. it would be cute to give away like a shirt/shorts or sweatpants/sweatshirt that says something cute on it like "i partied at ______'s sweet sixteen."
4. ask the dj. they usually have good ideas. maybe they can carry you in on a chair or something.

1. A buffet because you can't predict what the people are going to want to eat, so this way they can choose & it would be easier to have a variety.

2. Not at all, but just don't play ONLY that stuff. Play those songs after every other song. & That will get them dancing because everyone loves those songs.

3. If you don't want to make it edible, make it unique yet simple. Probably like, little bags or baskets, filled with random things that they would like. Doesn't have to be candy, it could be like little things of lip gloss or something, depending on your guests.

4. As for the entrance, make it you. Make it something unique that you like. Try watching old episodes of my sweet sixteen for ideas, or try googling for some, that will give you a good idea.
