For instance, if you see somebody that reminds you of someone else (in a good way) or looks like someone you once saw or know of, you are instantly drawn to them, at least until you get to know him/her. In regards to what you mentioned, the more familiar a face becomes to you, the more attractive it is, simply because it is just that: familiar and within your comfort zone. I think that this alone evokes happy, positive feelings which would in turn attract you more to another person.
My brother actually once told me that most people are attracted to another person's personality or looks especially if that person reminds them of someone very close to them, or someone they like.
