you know how on the side of your finger nail theres like.. strands of loose skin that, when pulled out, hurts like hell. anyway, a piece of skin was sticking out from under the side of my nail and i was dumb enough to pull it out. it hurts a LOT, and i need it to heal by friday because i have to play violin for a concert and i cant b/c it hurts so much when i push on it.. so.. erm. what are some things i could do to lessen the pain and get rid of it altogether before friday?? ><
karenR answered Tuesday February 26 2008, 4:03 pm: It sounds like a hangnail. A hangnail
is a nail condition where excess skin
exists around the nail and partially
detaches from the nail. They can be
very painful, especially if you pull
them off!
From Mamashealth.com...
Treat a hangnail by trimming the hangnail
area with clean manicuring scissors. This
will help to prevent the hangnail from
getting caught on clothing or anything
else which would cause it to rip or tear
close to the sensitive skin area. When
trimmed, most hangnails will go away in
a few days.
They can be prevented by using cuticle
oil or skin moisturizer around your
nails.
I have had them and it will probably
stop hurting tomorrow if trimmed. I
don't think playing Friday will be a
problem at all. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]

If you've pulled it off, it will most probably be fine by Friday. Just let the air get to it and allow it to heal. Try not to touch it or bang it.
If you get them in future, don't pull! Just pop on a plaster to prevent you snagging it on things.
and good luck with your concert. :) [ thelaura's advice column | Ask thelaura A Question ]
