I've been to San Diego plenty of times, and most of the time, I've been by La Jolla/Coronado beach area, but I've been around the art district a couple of times.

The crime in San Diego is not as high as it is in LA, but there is a little bit of crime that still goes on. Life in that area is great, the weather is wonderful, and there's just a lot of things that you can do. You will see a lot of Hispanic people. Huge earthquakes are not very common, there will be some smaller ones. The room will start to shake a little, and you'll definitely feel it. It's nothing major though. Center Cali is where most of the Earthquakes occur. The mortgage of homes are VERY expensive. A house here in the Midwest for about $100,000 would be $350,000 there.

If you are really looking forward to going to that school in San Diego, I say go for it, if you are up for some hard work. I would say that SD is more of a vacation spot than a living space for 1 person.
