Ok I want to lose about 35 pounds, and I don't care much about hearing about the healthy way to do things. Lately things have been kind of hard for me and I have lost my appetite, and it just so happens I want to lose weight, too. I don't eat anything most days, and when I do eat, it's only one meal a day (supper). I'm guessing I consume 900-1000 cals a day maximum. People say you will lose muscle first, and then your metabolism slows, and you won't lose ANY fat if you do that. However I've noticed my uniform skirt fits me way looser, and my dad said my face was getting really thin. I have been eating like this for about 2 weeks. So my question is, even though they say you just lose water weight etc, is it possible that I'm losing fat ?
Oh and I haven't been super weak or anything.
Just literally NEVER hungry.
The body does not lose anything first, and then something second. You will always lose combinations of both. The trick is to try to minimise muscle loss and maximise fat loss. Needless to say you are not doing that.
There are a number of problems with this. By losing muscle you mess with your metabolism in the long term. I think we can both agree that you will not be able to eat like this forever. If you do you will be in serious danger.
So, once you start to eat normally you will find yourself gaining lots and lots of fat. That is because the body is in starvation mode. Also, those muscles you eroded away used to burn quite a few calories daily to sustain. They also gave you energy and the ability to sustain activity. All that will be diminished, once again promoting weight gain in pure fat.
Now, to make matters worse you are also young and growing. Your body needs this nutrition, they are the building blocks that will make you a healthy adult. You are exposing yourself to countless risks with your current habits. These not only include health problems but it will also affect your appearance and mental abilities.
Here is a short list of effects on a pdf i found online:
As for other long term effects, well just look up anorexia online and you can see how it destroys the body (sometimes killing the person).
Anyway, stop what you are doing and start eating normally. In fact start eating 5 meals a day spaced out evenly. That is the path towards proper weight loss. It involves increasing your metabolic rate not destroying it.
The reason you are not hungry is because the body is well into starvation mode. When you start eating normally this will change (and that will be a very good thing as I have shown above).
I know you dont care about the healthy way to do things, but it is very hard to just stand by while someone is telling you how they are destroying themselves.
The sooner you change your habits the better, believe me.
xojessii answered Saturday February 16 2008, 7:11 pm: It is possible that you are loosing a little fat, but most of this is probably water weight, which you can easily gain back.
if you are only going to eat one meal a day, dinner is not a good one to choose.
i know its easiest because you are with your parents and they want you to eat. but its late at night and eating all of those calories before you go to bed is hurting you in the long run in loosing weight.
instead try eating a small breakfast like an apple. apples have lots of fiber and it will keep you full. fiber is an important nutrient when it comes to loosing weight. also eating breakfast starts your metabolism so its easier for your body to burn fat and calories through out the day.
if you want to loose weight quicker its important that you exercise for atleast 30 minutes a day doing cardio (dancing, jumping jacks, running, kick boxing, etc;) you might be able to find an exercise routine on FitTV. and if you have digital cable channel 557 is exercise on demand.
and i know i can't make you eat but if you are choosing not to. which you really should eat. take a multi-vitamin so you will stay healthy.
