questions and answers about the movie girl positive

Question Posted Sunday February 10 2008, 7:06 pm

I watched this movie recently about aids, called girl,positive...And i was just wonering if a woman gets HIV/AIDS and she gets pregnant and has the baby, does the baby automatically get aids? Because i know you can get it from vaginal fluid, semen, breast milk and blood. But if you get pregnant is that an automatic disease for the baby? Thanks

No it does not automatically become a diesease for the baby. It can by the ways you mentioned if the mother is responsible she'll find other ways to feed the baby and maybe have a C-Section to prevent it.

An HIV positive woman can transmit the virus to her baby during pregnancy, labour and delivery, and through breastfeeding. If she takes no preventive drugs and breastfeeds then the chance of her baby becoming infected is around 20-45%.
