Basically, you might have already 'popped' it earlier on in life through heavy excercise or something, so it's not always the problem. Often first time sex may hurt because of this and there could be a little bleeding, but very often it does not, and also very often, you've already 'popped your cherry'! Sex can hurt often when your tensed and not prepared. It entirely depends on the person; some people find it agony for a long time before sex actually works for them, like one of my friends. Others will find it very painless.

Some women have a very thin hymen, some women have a much thicker hymen. Some women's hymen will have already been stretched or broken in different activities, some wont.
