"The Border" problem. (vote obama!)

Question Posted Wednesday February 6 2008, 8:52 pm

I dont understand why so many people have issues with immigrants coming here illegally. i mean what happened to the good ol american saying that its the land of the free? i mean if you lived a crap life in mexico and you were just looking for a better life in america.. doesnt it make sense to try and come here? i mean when people get granted to come here.. its not that easy. you could be told "no". then what are you gonna do? live a crap life there? NO. try to imagine life from their POV. with the border being built up thats gay.. i mean who are we to say how many people can inhabit america? i mean this is a country friggen based on IMMIGRANTS. the closest anyone can call themselves to a real american is if they have a long line of native americans in their family. and what about a long time ago when columbus came and took land away from the native americans? what if they called them illegal immigrants cause they didnt call to come say hello, and uh steal their land and kill their people while they're at it. with hillary clinton she says she doesnt wanna be involved with the building of that humongous border, but thank god obama has some sense. super tuesday was really close.. i was pretty pissed that obama came a close second. bet its just racist old people, since a lot of the younger generation wants obama. like in school (btw 8th grade) we had a poll out of my entire team and obama was clearly the winner. hillary had like 1/4 of the votes and very few were for mccain. and i live in new jersey.. which mostly favored hillary, obama coming second. thats just plain weird that the kids would have diff opinions like that. obama appeals to everybody. there are some people like me that.. like idk why but thers something about hillary i dont like. but with obama.. it just seems so different, so right. with him i actually feel that change will come to our country. anyways, with obama hes gonna try to get the mexicans that come over for day jobs licenses.. so that they know the rules of america and stuff.. cause they need to know them or they can be a danger to the people here, and well themselves as well. cause thinking that a little border is gonna stop people from making outlandish schemes to get over it, is bullshit. not gunna happen. its not right for the racist people around mexico (in america.. like above mexico) go around shooting people they see crossing over. who the hell would give these old coots the right to SHOOT SOMEBODY? for doing what? trying to get a better life! that is totall bullcrap so remember to vote for obama, once again. and yea building that border is not gonna be cheap.. and people complain about the tax prices now.. heh well its not getting better with that border, hunny. money should go to better things. as well with the border surrounding canada which is more ridiciously hilarious.. look at a man of North America and i wont have to explain. k end rant. opinions? please dont like remove this.. i really want to know opinions.. in a way i guess thats sort of like answers right? like advice to me. yeah. or if its wrong like tell me why how this isnt an advice question and how i could make it one. kthanks mods.

Most people don't have a problem with immigrants... it's the ILLEGAL immigrants they have a problem with.

You're right... there are millions of people (billions, actually) who live in places where they don't have the opportunity, or even the right, to make a better life for themselves. Many of them would love to move to the U.S. or other countries where conditions are better.

Actually, the U.S. is a very generous country and we DO allow a large number of immigrants to move here each year. But there has to be a limit. If we said, "Okay, everyone come on over!", we'd soon be flooded with more people than we could could take care of. There wouldn't be enough jobs, schools, housing, etc. for everyone. So we have a limit on the number of immigrants we allow to move here each year.

When people sneak in illegally, we get more people than we can handle... and it puts a big burden on our government. We have to help pay for their food, housing, medical expenses, etc. We have to build more schools, jails, clinics; and hire more teachers, social workers, police, etc. to handle all these people. This all costs money, and where does this money come from? Our taxes.

Ask your parents how they feel about the taxes they pay now, and if they'd mind paying even more so we could take care of illegal immigrants. And how would YOU feel if your parents had less money to buy you all the things you want? Are you willing to give up your computer, cell phone, nice clothes, activities, etc. so that people who have broken the law could have those things? If so, you're a pretty generous person. But not everyone feels that way. Most people want to help others in need, but they also need to take care of themselves and their own families.

There's a difference between immigrants and illegal immigrants. My great-great-grandparents came here legally, through a process at Ellis Island, and now my family can legitimately say that we are just as American as anyone else. We came from Poland, waited in line, paid a huge amount of money, and after a grueling process, we are now legal citizens. You can't just come into a country whenever you feel like it, with your only justification being 'my life sucks'. I'm doing awful in math, but if I killed my teacher, with my only reasoning being "My future in college is ruined because of this teacher", I'd look ridiculous.

Think of every taxpayer who is supporting illegal immigrants, while they use our public works for free. It's not as simple as walking over the border and automatically becoming a citizen, there's a process you need to go through. Without going through that process, they are ALIENS.

There's a reason it's called "illegal". We should NOT reward people who are, techinically criminals. We do not put illegal immigrants in jail, we send them home. Fair enough. More than fair. The only issue right now is how to solve the illegal immigration issue. Mass deportation is clearly unrealistic, and a wall is laughable. Here's an idea, how about instead of worrying about this, we focus on making Mexico BETTER so they don't need to come here illegaly in the first place?

When you say America is/was built on the foundation of immigrants, you are absolutely right. However, we are not built on a foundation of ILLEGAL immigrants that have come here unlawfully. A good deal of these people then mooch on welfare and the free schooling provided by tax paying Americans, all the while not paying taxes themselves. They are essentially living a life in the States for free, which cannot be tolerated, end of story. Giving licenses to illegal immigrants only encourages more illegal migration here.

Your ideas on the primary elections are incredibly faulty and skewed. When you say it's racists that aren't voting for Obama, you completely ignore Clinton. Why don't you want Clinton to win? You must be sexist. See how idiotic a notion that is? Please do not use it again for evidence of anything, or you'll sound like a fool.

The reality with the Canadian border is that Canadians do not WANT to get into the US because they are relatively happy with their country already. It is people from Latin America that are trying to get out of terrible countries, legally and illegally. The illegal problem cannot be brushed aside with an appeal to a common humanity. I don't see illegal immigrants bending over backwards to pay for the public schooling they receive.

EDIT:

Your rating shows you to be as immature as your typing indicates. You are unable to separate realistic situations from the figurative one I set up in regard to Clinton. Rating someone a two simply because they completely tore your weak arguments apart is ridiculous, and calling me a dumbass when you could not distinguish a facetious comment from a real one is truly comical. You list no reasons for your liking Obama, and I find it likely that you only like him because, as you stated, everyone around you your age likes him.

I won't report you, because you've suffered enough embarrassment already in knowing that every answer you received contradicted whatever "ideas", and I use that word loosely, you already had. Mercifully, it was anonymously. Next time, please think before you question a situation or decide to rate based on your own personality weaknesses.

First of all, you're in the eighth grade. I can't tell you how many of my friends' opinions have changed since then. It's unbelievable. And I'm not looking to argue with you.

As for immigration, you have good points and I respect that. Let's talk about when you are old enough to pay taxes. Public schools (independent school districts) operate on property tax. People who live in apartments don't pay property tax- the property tax gets paid, but there are a lot of people living in a smaller space than say, a house. When illegal immigrants come to America, there's no way they can pay taxes without getting caught by the I.R.S. and forced back to their homeland. Therefore, there are many kids (a lot at my school) whose parents are illegal immigrants who don't pay property taxes. So what does that mean? That means that that child goes to school completely free. Yes, public school is "free," but your parents pay property tax- which goes to the school. A child whose parents don't pay property tax literally does go to school for free- which is bad for the school because how are they supposed to support extra students without financial support? Besides that, many illegal immigrants don't speak English, which means that obviously standardized testing will not be awesome which means even less money from the state for the public school. And that's just one aspect of it.

And if you live anywhere near the South, you know that immigration is a joke anyway. I learn more Spanish when I'm going about my daily business in town than I have in any Spanish class.

I don't have a problem with people immigrating here. I do have a problem with people living here illegally and not paying taxes, however (and those who are here illegally and depend on the government for welfare). Our tax dollars at work... supporting people who don't pay taxes.

Yes, I agree that younger generations root for Obama. However, the outcome of the vote of your eighth grade class does not really mean anything. I'm not undermining your opinion (and in fact I'm glad that you're not apathetic like many students), but you are not old enough to actually vote.

Obama doesn't appeal to everybody... obviously, or Mike Huckabee would have dropped out a long time ago.

Here's some info you might like.

When Bill Clinton left office, he had reduced our national debt to about 2 trillion dollars. At this point, our national debt is back up to over 9 trillion dollars.

Over 36 million Americans are living in poverty.

Forty-seven million are uninsured.

Our consumer credit debt is 12.8 trillion dollars.

Only 32 percent of Americans view our current President favorably.

Sixty percent of our fuel is imported.

And if you've heard anything about the "rebate checks"... you might want to read this part too. The government is expecting people to go out and spend this money to give back to our economy, so to speak. Undoubtedly, a large portion of this money will go to Wal*Mart, a super-corporation notorious for its lack of employee benefits. The reason that Wal*Mart is able to keep its prices so low is because it sends its labor elsewhere- ie, Mexico, Thailand, China, Japan, Malaysia, et cetera. The people there have to work very cheaply to even provide for their families. In other news, Wal*Mart is taking advantage of them. So basically, we are sending even more of our money overseas, while treating the rest of the world like crap and eliminating the use of Americans in the workforce.

And as far as "No Child Left Behind"... catering those who have no motivation to amount to anything only harms those who can achieve.

I hope you appreciate this because I should be reading "Pride and Prejudice" right now.

I support Hillary Clinton.

First things first, Obama voted for the 'secure fence act' in 2006, there's no denying that.

People have opinions on everything. Some say that illegal immigration leads to crime, some say that illegal immigrants take advantage of the helpful programs offered in the United States. Others stand by the key word "illegal"-illegal means against the law, so why should it be accepted unless laws are changed.
A lot of the issue has to deal with the economy. The economy is in bad shape now, why should the United States take on the responsibility of illegal immigrants? The United States, no matter how wealthy and advanced, cannot care for every other country in the world, it will just not happen even if it were possible.

I think you're a little off with the whole election thing. I highly doubt that 'racism' has much to do with the election, just as 'sexism' has little to do with it. Look at the democratic candidates that have made it here- a woman and an african american. Both wouldn't have made it this far if people didn't support them.
Kids are going to think a lot differently than adults and elders. Younger people might be drawn toward Obama due to his rhetoric and overall presence. Others are drawn to Clinton due to experience, believe it or not she did a lot of good things while her hubby was President. And McCain also has a lot of experience. You might not agree with his views but you cannot deny that he knows politics and Washington well.

Obama does not appeal to everybody. He lacks votes with Hispanics and white women. Just like Clinton lacks in the african american and white male department.

One single person is not going to bring change to a country, no matter how badly people want to believe it. Sure, there can be a great influence, but it takes many people to make such a drastic change.

By the way, I am planning on voting for Obama [if my state's primary even plays a factor in deciding the candidate, PA doesn't have it's primary until April which is really late], I'm just playing devil's advocate here. It's better to have your facts straight before you go about supporting a candidate. You know a lot for your age, but I wouldn't praise a candidate before you know their entire story.
