I just started at a new school a few weeks ago. I know people there now, but I still find myself sitting alone at lunch and free time. I'm really shy. How do I reach out and make friends without being too forward?

I switched schools approximately 5 times throughout elementary and middle school. I was very, very shy and not outgoing. At all. I was the kid that read on the bus [and was made fun of for it]. Making friends was not my forte. However, the situation became a little better once I befriended a very outgoing and semi popular girl. She introduced me to tons of people, and I slowly started to adjust to my new school and friends. The key thing is to just smile and say 'Hi'. Trust me, it's not as hard as it sounds. Like you, I also did not want to be TOO straightforward.

I made friends with tons of new kids and thats what they had said to me! But whatever you do... be yourself! the new kids that arent dont end up so good!
Hope it helped! :]] [ o0Yourmom0o's advice column | Ask o0Yourmom0o A Question ]
