Trademarks are used on certain words and symbols. For example, PC Magazine is a trademark. No one else in the same field(computers) could use the term PC Magazine. Businesses in other fields can use the same trademarked terms. For example, if there was a magazine about political correctness, they could call their magazine PC Magazine.
Copyright is used on artistic works. No one can use copyrighted works, not even in different fields. All of PC Magazine's articles are copyrighted. No one can copy the text or pictures in the articles.
Trademarks are to protect brands. Copyrights are to protect artistic works and their authors. ]
