um i was wondering, well i have two questions my straightening iron is an andis 1 inch and i noticed that there is brown redish buildup on my iron can you give me some tips on how to get it off, using houseold stuff not like oils, scrapers, or rubbing alchohal somethin simple.
I don't recommend washing an electrical appliance in the sink; I'd be afraid of a) electrocution and b) shorting it out and destroying my straightener.
CrazyStylist answered Friday June 5 2009, 11:49 pm: The build up you see is the hair product you use.
I don't know about household products.
But the best way to remove this build up from straighting and curling irons, that I have found, is to go to your local beauty store. There's one in every town that sells wigs and extensions.
Buy a cream relaxer, doesn't cost alot.
Heat your curling iron, to a medium heat, get a soft cloth and dip the cloth into the relaxer, get a small amount on the cloth, then smoothly apply to the iron surface in a back and forth motion.
You will literally see the buildup dissolve.
When all of the build up is gone, unplug the iron and let cool.
After it has cooled completely, wipe it with a water damp, warm, and very soft cloth.
May not be the simplest way, but the best I know of.
PS:
Washing any electrical applicance, in a sink , with soap and water, even if unplugged is ill advised...and straight up retarded ! [ CrazyStylist's advice column | Ask CrazyStylist A Question ]

It sounds to simple to be true but I had that in the creases of my old straight iron and i used a toothpick to pry it out then i just washed it with soap and water.
