Dance

Question Posted Monday January 28 2008, 12:22 am

hey!
well im 14 and going to be a freshman next year and i want to try out for my high schools dance team. Try outs are in december 2008, and i would LOVE to make it. Im thinking about taking private lessons in order to catch up on the dancing ive missed out on.(i use to dance when i was 7) So yea, it has been a while. I use to be really good, so i know a lot of the stuff, just i have forgotten how to do it all. My mom is going to make ME pay for the lessons, but i dont have a job, so i dont know how i could afford them!

So does anyone have any good advice/ tips or websights or something that can teach me how to do the following...??
Try-out Expectations
Turns
- clean double/triple pirouette
- chaine’s (R/L); in plie; releve; fast or slow
- piques
- inside pirouettes
• need to have all turns on R and L with correct technique!
Leaps
- axle (on R)
- jete (brush leap)
- saute chat (develope leap)
- X-leap
- Leap in full 2nd (both sides)
• with exception of axle, need to have leaps on both R and L, with correct
technique!
Kicks
We expect kicks and fans to be well above shoulder height, with straight
knees and pointed ankles and toes. Work on your stamina, strength and
endurance. A Y scale will be in the piece.
Splits
- flat/close to flat on R and L
Overall Dance Technique/ Style
- You need to be familiar with all ballet positions of the feet and arms.
- You need to be familiar with transition steps (chasse, pas de bourre, ball
changes, etc..)
- You need to working on being a stylized dancer

also anyone know any good stretches to get my splits?? I use to be able to do them really well, but now its soo sad!! haha

Thanks to anyone who helps!!!
