So fat it's unhealthy

Question Posted Friday January 25 2008, 5:38 pm

I know someone who is extremely overweight. Their mother has tried everything--literally, everything--to get them to lose weight, but they just won't. They binge and convince themselves it's ok. They don't see that they have a problem. What else is there to do?

Unfortuantly in order for someone to lose weight the person that is overweight needs to make the decision to change. Until that happens, no matter what anyone else does for the person, its not going to work. If your friend has decided that she or he is ready to lose weight then the first and formost thing you and their mother need to do is be there for them to support them because weightloss in incredibly difficult. Also, once that person is ready to change, make sure that they are able to speak with their doctor before they change their diet and introduce exercise. After they have had the okay from the doctor then encourage them to make small life style changes. Weight loss will take longer this way, but it will help rebuild their lifestyle into one that will stay healthy. First, cut out fats, and sweets and introduce healthier alternatives.

Hopefully this will be a good starting point, let me know if there are other ways I can help

Well honestly, probably they should get professional help, not help from me, but if you don't want that, you should try talking to them. Obviously what they're doing is not "ok", and you should make sure you get that through to them.

Make sure that the person you are talking about is going to listen to what you say, or will respect your opinion.

Binging does not help you lose weight, it does the opposite, because the body is put in 'survival mode' so any food that goes into your friends body will automatically turn into fat.

Fad diets never work as well, they're scams.

If someone is so overweight that it could harm them, then gastric-bypass is an answer.

The best way to lose weight naturally is to combine aerobics with a good diet.

I hoped I helped :]

Nothing for you. That is their right, and they must live with the consequences. Leave them alone.

I had a cousin like that, and the only way that my aunt got through to her, was showing her what happens to people who get overweight and unhealthy.

Such a loss of limbs from diabetes.
And people who have had heart attacks from clogged arteries, from the fatty foods they eat.
