Well, obviously, appearance is very important to these girls. Some of them won't allow themselves to be seen in public without make up on, for example. In my opinion, its because they have low self confidence, and they spend tons of time on their appearance so that they will be more confident. These things just serve as a big confidence boost. So for these girls, looking cute, as you put it, is what makes them comfortable and happy. How do I know? I'm one of those girls. I know that if I'm going somewhere that is nerve wracking (first day of school, for example) I better look good, which means dressing in clothes that are "in," straightening my hair, etc. For example, if I had to do a presentation or a speech at school, I would most definitely spend an extra five or ten minutes in front of the mirror. The girls that have lower self confidence than I do, feel like they need to spend this time on themselves everyday.

I agree - it is about being comfortable and happy with yourself. That's probably why those girls who feel the need to look glam every day do it - because it makes them feel better and more confident in themselves. Everyone is different. You don't feel the need to dress up, but obviously you still feel good about yourself. They clearly don't.

You're right, it's about being comfortable with yourself, which you obviously are. Not that the girls who are experimenting with clothes and makeup are wrong, they're just different than you. I was a tomboy in high school, my best friend was totally into clothes and makeup. I never saw her wear the same thing twice in high school; all I ever wore was jeans and a T-shirt. 30 years later, she's still into clothes, I'm still wearing jeans. Hasn't bothered either one of us. We're still best friends. The good part is, when I have to get dressed up to go to a wedding or something, I just call her. She knows EXACTLY how to dress me! And she loves doing it! So just go on being yourself, and you're absolutely right in not teasing those girls. It's just how they are. "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears."--Henry David Thoreau
