tanning. answers asap plz :]

Question Posted Wednesday January 16 2008, 10:17 pm

i'm tanning for winterball on saturday, and yesterday i went for the first time for 4 minutes. it didn't make too much of a difference, just a base color and a little bit in my face.
i'm going again tomorrow and i think i should do 6 minutes, they maybeee 8 (max) on saturday.
thing is i don't want to get burnt but i also don't want to waste money by not getting any color, so how long should i tan for? (stand up booth, btw not laying down)

and no, i don't want a detailed explanation on the effects of tanning, i already know. this is a special occasion thing.

The thing with tanning that I absolutely hate, is you have to have patience, which I don't have. That's why I never have a tan. I'm always just burnt.

You aren't wasting your money, tanning takes time. If you get anxious, and lay to long, you will get burnt and won't be able to lay anymore. Then for the dance, you will either be pale, or you'll look like a lobster.

The best thing to do is keep laying at the same time for about a week. It won't be a big difference, but you will get a few shades darker. After that week you can start laying for a longer period of time depending on how strong the bed you are laying in is. Ask the person working at the salon how much longer they think you should lay, and they will tell you. In about 2 weeks, you should be nice and bronze =]

It really all depends on your skin tone. I have skin that tans real easily and never burns. What I would suggest for you however, is to go in a low bed tomorrow for 8 minutes, [assuming that you're using a tanning lotion]. Then on saturday, try a medium bed for 4-6 minutes, or the low bed for 10. I don't know where you tan or any of that, but if you can get some lotion to use when you go tanning, I reccommend spellbound, it's a tinted lotion that smells really good. They should have sample lotions there too which are fun. Good luck and have a blast at winterball! -Angel
