leg wound

Question Posted Sunday January 6 2008, 10:57 pm

i'm writing a book and one character gets stabbed in the upper leg. it needs to be a pretty bad wound cause another character is a doctor and fixes it.
problem 1 - the book is set in a time where there are no hospitals. so this has to be done in a forest where they are camping.
problem 2 - i have no idea what the process would be for something like that. is it possible that anyone could talk me through it? like what has to be done to fix it and what excersises and stuff need to be done to make sure it heals properly?
thankyou so much to anyone that can help!

well they need to wash out the wound. and then rub some alcohol or something on it. if they dont have any, they can use wine. and then they put pressure on it with like a thick blanket or cloth or something. and then they wrap it up.

or, you know, you could just skip through that whole phase and just say that the character woke up and he wasnt in pain and his wound was bandaged but he coulnt walk on it. thats what i would do. anyways, hope this helped. take care! hope your book turns out great!

Well, what time frame are we talking about? 1800s, 500AD, etc...
It's hard to say what the doctor would have done without a time frame. More information would be great.
