I'm not exactly sure what it means.
"You are what you love, Not what loves you back"
What does that mean exactly?

When people say someone "completes" their life, and revolves their whole world around that one person. You cannot base yourself on what someone else makes of you, only what you make of yourself.
There is a quote I think would go great with this one, only in different words.
"A man should only compliment your life, not complete it."

In my opinion I think this quote is saying that who you love and/or what you love defines the sort of personality you carry. You don't need someone or something that loves you back to define who you are, it's what you love that is who you are

Well, when you ask someone what that quote would mean, most people are going to base what it means on interpretation.
But what it means when I read it is,
you are what you love; the way you love, how you love, that's who you are, what you are, you are not defined by the thing/person who loves you back.
