cardio

Question Posted Tuesday November 27 2007, 7:38 pm

What is the amount of cardio I should do each day to lose weight, or in my case I'm just trying to tone up. I'm fifteen and 5'3 and around 130lbs if that helps at all. I'm usually on an eliptical or exercise bike for around fifteen minutes to a half an hour five days a week, is that enough?

I'd say any amount of cardio a day is good. Most people like doing 15 minutes to an hour depending on the exercise. It all depends on your body type & how in shape you are. Do as much as you're comfortable with. If you feel tired or as if it's too much, cut back a bit. You can also try walking. It's actually really good exercise.

-hope that helped!♥

It's not bad. Cardio will help your heart and lungs, but it may not do much for your muscle tone (except for your legs). For that you'll need dynamic exercise: calisthenics, some weight training, whatever you're most comfortable with.

If you're pressed for time and want to make your cardio extremely efficient, try jumping rope (equivalent to 30 minutes of jogging) or intervals: go as fast as you can for a full minute, rest a minute, then go again until you've done five intervals or you pass out. It's a technique developed for the Japanese Olympic speed-skating team, and it really maximizes your cardio workout.

Hope this helps.
