Valentines Day: last year, i made him a "vintage" like heart card & got him a stuffed animal dog holding a heart. you can make a vintage like heart by cutting out two different colors, layering it and buying some lace..and making a border around the heart.
Birthday: I'm thinking about getting him some video games, maybe a t-shirt or a skateboard.
Crafts-
Collage: Print some pictures out with you two together. Put it on various sides of the paper. Cut out words to describe your relationship and paste it inbetween the pictures.

last Christmas - hoodie, tshirt, and ipod nano
birthday - 2 Fender posters [hes a guitar player] and a big bag of Reese's
Valentines Day - a big bag of kisses, and a list of "100 reasons why i love you" [it wasnt that easy lol]
and this Christmas - cologne, a tshirt, and maybe a car tag or guitar strap

Popular gifts include jewelry, electronics such as cameras/ipods, something like personally like such as sports related items, cds, concert tickets, food, candy, etc. It all depends on the people & the relationship. I think making crafts for christmas is a really cute idea. Also, stores like American Greetings & Hallmark have some really cute things. Here's a few websites-
