to get on birthcontrol, you need to see a gynocologyst, and get a pap smear. depending on if you've had sex before or anything like that, this may or may not hurt you. birth control is a really good idea. it WILL NOT protect you from HIV , STDS, or any other sexually transmitted conditions. i do feel that it is a good idea to be used in combination with condoms. teenage pregnancy is becoming more and more common. side effects are different with each pill. your doctor can tell you specifics. the general side effects are very rare. some include blood clotting and liver disease. remember that these are extremely rare. however, if a history of liver or heart problems run in your family, the pill may not be right for you. the only cons of the pill are that you need to take it everyday. if you are forgetful this might be a problem. it should be taken everyday regularly to get the most protection. the other obvious downside to the pill are the side effects i have already mentiond, which are again very rare. i feel that there are many good reasons to get on the pill. it is a personal decision , and if you are sexually active it is a good idea. having a child way before you are ready, can mess things up for your future; or your reputation.
i hope this was helpful, sorry it was a long read. [ brown23's advice column | Ask brown23 A Question ]

queenhearts answered Sunday November 11 2007, 3:01 pm: The side effects are:
irregular menstrual bleeding
weight gain
headaches
dizziness
nausea
tenderness
It usually goes away in a month. I only experienced slight weight gain and nausea every morning. [Soup helps]
It regulates your period and makes it shorter to 4 or 3 days. It's added protection if you use condoms. You also don't get bad cramps. And you can skip periods [not all the time] if you get a new packet early. The pill also has some protection against pelvic inflammatory disease. It also helps premenstrual symptoms. If you have acne, it helps.
I've heard that it may change your sex drive.. bad or good.
I've been on it for 8 months.. I haven't experienced anything bad. But it's different for every person, so i would check with your doctor if you have any specific questions. [ queenhearts's advice column | Ask queenhearts A Question ]
