Birds and Bees theory

Can anyone tell me what exactly IS the birds and bees theory? i've always heard it for so long and noone knows what it means, even the teachers i just doens't know

basically, The birds and the bess represent the males, and since they seek the flowers (females) for their seed(s)... Get together, contact... you know? the whole metaphorical idea of it. haha!
Its silly, and more complicated than it really should be! haha!
