Birth Control

Question Posted Sunday November 4 2007, 5:19 pm

Hey guys

I went to planned parenthood the other day and they told me i should be taking my pills for about a week until they work. Does this mean it's okay to be taking the pills for 2 weeks (or a little more) and to have sex? I won't get pregnant right? well of course with birth control theres always a risk but i mean, the pills will be working by then right?

thanks <3

well i just started that same pill too.(ortho tryclen lo.. right?) i had sex on the 11th day of my pack, i thought it was alright because the website and the paper that came with the actual pills said 7 days, but i called and they said wait 14 days. im still confused. so im just waiting for my period to come, but then again i didnt have the guy go inside me (he pulled out. so if they said 7 days go ahead, it obviously must be safe otherwise they wouldnt be telling you thatt. hope i helped :]

Keep in mind I've never used birth control, however, I do know that most of them require a month before having sex. But since yours is a week, then I think you should wait the full week without having sex. If they tell you to wait a week, there's probably a good reason for that. So in my opinion, I wouldn't recommend doing it.

Usually, i hear it takes the whole first pack/month cycle. At least that is what my doctor told me, and what they told me when I used to get them from the free clinic. But it depends sometimes. If they said a week or two, then I guess it is okay. I never heard of one working that quick. The best thing to do is look up the name of your birth control online and see what the maker says about it.

It really depends on the pill you're taking. The one my girlfriend takes we had to wait a full cycle of her period before it was safe to not use a condom. Honestly, look it up online for the specific pill you're taking. If you're in doubt, use a condom!! Also, even when you're taking birth control, it's not a bad idea to use a condom during your "risk days" i.e. 12 to 16 days after your period.

You should be safe to go ahead and have sex. Since I am not sure which pill you are taking I cannot say for sure but if the people at planned parenthood said to wait a week after taking it than im sure if it has been a week or more than you should be fine!
