AP HiSTORY

Question Posted Monday October 29 2007, 1:53 am

Ok, what's the best way to study? I read the chapter and I take notes, but then I can't remember certain things & sometimes even the order things happened! The questions are SO specific!

Sometimes a rhyme or song or other type of mnemonic can help. Most people know the example of Christopher Columbus, for example (in 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue). And I modified that to help me remember one fact for my psychology course ("in 1892, the APA was formed--woohoo!"). It's a little more difficult to make it work for a lot of things, but if there are a few specific facts you're having trouble remembering, it might be useful.

Another way is to tie things together in a logical way. Again using my psych course, I remember that Freud published "The Interpretation of Dreams" in 1901 because I mused over how he might psychoanalyse that date. And don't get hung up on logic, either--when I say a logical connection, it's about one that makes sense to you, that you can remember.

Best of luck.

i like to use index cards.
put key words or phrases on one side to help trigger your memory, and on the other side put additional facts and dates.
it helps if you have a photographic memory.

and maybe, in addition to taking notes, make a timeline of important events and review it often.
if you don't already.

hope i helped, good luck!

I hate AP history.
For me, the best way to study is with my nerdier friends. They keep me on track and we play this game called "Nerd squad" loosesly based on our schools academic team, which is sort of like Jepeordy.

for things like IDs ( identifications), we make notecards and buzz in against each other. For things like DQs ( Discussion Questions)
we have to adress all parts of the question and have 1 min to answer to get full points

this makes studying fun and it stays in my brain.
I have to hear things and say things in order to remember them.

hope this helps
