yes, unweighted gpa is for normal classes and weighted gpa is for advanced classes. i don't think it's possible to have a high unweighted and a low weighted, because my weighted is higher than my unweighted (and so are the gpas of my friends). i think it is basically like that if you are in any advanced classes at all. and if you are not in advanced classes, then your gpas should be the same. it is the weighted that determines class rank though. hope i helped :) ]
The weighted GPA doesn't make much of a difference.
It makes all the difference in the world when determining class rank, though.
The way most schools work (if not all) is:
Let's say you have a 90 in a level two class, weighted at 105%. You'll get an extra five percent added to your grade [90 x 1.05] = 94.5
Level one class (or AP) graded at 110%:
90 x 1.10 = 99
The level one class is harder, so you'll get a higher grade when claculating class rank. That's basically it. The weights don't make much of a difference, you either do really well in the class or tank it completely.
Hope that helps!
