The legal age of consent in Texas is 17. You could hang out with him, but any more and he could get in serious trouble. I would look for someone closer to your age so you don't have to worry about this. When you are older, 5 years won't be that big of a difference, but right now it may be too much for a healthy relationship.

I dont live in Texas but i wouldnt think you would need a legal age for dating each other
If you are in a sexual relationship then yeah sure it would be different but if you are just dating one another I wouldnt think there would be an age limit
