The best person to help you is your school guidance councilor. A part of their job is to help you in all ways possible to further your education in your chosen field.
You have to decide what level of nurse you want to be. LPN, RN, Nurse Practitioner, etc. All of these levels take different amounts of years of schooling, Practitioner being the longest, since they can treat and diagnose like a doctor. Pediatrics would be your chosen field, but you still need to decide on what level of nursing you want to be at.
The councilor will research and tell you how many years, your college options in your area, and financing.
Even if it costs a lot of money, you can get financial aide, student loans, and student grants (most of which don't have to be repaid). These things can be pretty tricky to apply for, but your councilor will help you with the applications for finance AND for the colleges.

I live in England but i think it would be about the same time to qualify as a pediatric nurse. You go to college for around 2/3 years depending on which course you choose and then go to university for around the same length of time, Doing a course that is focused on what type of nursing your want to do. In your case pediatric nursing.
As for finding a college in New York. Go on the net or get prospectuses from different colleges, talk with the colleges about how much the courses will cost, The college may do grants. They do here in England im not sure about the US
Hope that helped a little
