Aspiring Actress. Help?

Question Posted Sunday October 7 2007, 7:20 pm

Hi! Well I am an aspiring actress. It is a HUGE dream of mine. And I know that is is like a 1/9234753498723489327 chance that i would become one, but anyway.
On this one website they had this competition were you could send in a video to audition to be in a move [I did not win]
But does anyone know any more websites where you can do that?
Or any websites holding auditions or anything, or advice!!!
By the way im not THAT experienced of an actor but people tell me that im really good at it.

ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED! I RATE HIGH! THANK YOU!
14/f

You need to be aware of a few things. Anything on the Internet or advertised there or in a local paper looking for new talent is something to run away from.

Odds are it's a scam and believe me people are looking to sucker those desperate to be in the business. Avoid those web sites like the plague.
Nobody casts movies, Broadway or TV through the Internet nor will they look at pictures, videos etc. on there or put there by others.

If you want to be an actor start at the local level and do some community or youth theatre. If you enjoy that experience the next thing I would recommend you do is hire a Background Talent Agent through SAG or ACTRA in the U.S. and Canada respectively.

Background talent agents can put you in crowd shots in movies and TV shot in your city or a large metropolitan city near home. At this stage you cannot yet aquire a principal talent agent because you don't have a resume or lots of professional work.

Don't pay anyone for photos or to join an agency. Snapshots work fine for now. The only exception to paying anyone any fee is if you join a kids/teen only agency or a background talent agency. Why? people tend to flake out especially kids/teens when they see this is work more so than fun.
