Where do you feel you can make a change? Global warming, domestic violence, breast cancer, hate crimes, homelessness, etc? Once you have a short list look for organizations in your area that are working for change. Call them up and ask how you can help. These types of organizations need tons of help anything from working directly with the population to making phone calls or stuffing envelopes. Colleges will be impressed by the fact that you chose to do something about a cause you are passionate about, not that you chose to help a cause you could care less about. It is a pediatric hospital who treats children with cancer and other terminal illnesses. They treat ALL children, even if their family can't afford to pay for it.
