what is it called?

Question Posted Friday September 21 2007, 7:00 am

Sometimes i get these painful things in my mouth and I can't describe it but the closest thing I can compare it with is a pimple.

Sometimes I'll have it on my tongue or on my gum.

Does anyone know what it's called and why I get it?

It's either a cold sore or ulcer. Cold sores aren't really curable unless they're outside the mouth. But if it's an ulcer, you're supposed to mix baking soda with water, swish it around in your mouth a couple minutes before bed, then spit it away. It tastes pretty nasty, but it works.

Does it stick around for a long time?

Because I kind of get those sometimes, my mom says they're "Salt Bumps", so if I have food that's super-salty or something, I get them, and after a SHORT while they go away..

It could be an ulcer. They're really common.
Have a read through this to see if it matches;

Next time you have one, visit a doctor to get a proper diagnosis. and if it's uncomfortable or hurts, he will most probably give you something for it.

A cold sore. Its a form of herpes. Maybe from something you had in your mouth.
Do a google search on 'cold sores'

There are a few other things worse that it could be, but I doubt it since you didn't sound real panicked. Just a minor cold sore that you can get over-the-counter meds for.

Hope this helps.
