of course its wireless internet but how do you get it, can u use it anywhere? like how much does it cost on average, and how does it work? can u guys just explain the basics of this? oh yea is it fast ?
Wifi coverage is very dense in large cities. The smaller the city, the less dense wifi coverage is. Coverage is much worse than cell phone coverage. Each wifi signal comes from an access point that broadcasts about 300 ft. Price changes depending on the source, some are free(in restaurants mostly).
When you use wifi, everyone who uses the same wifi signal can see everything you do online, including passwords and credit card numbers you enter into forms. If the site uses server-side encryption (the "lock" symbol appears) or the access point uses encryption (public access points don't), it's much harder to do that.
Also, most people are too stupid to encrypt their wireless routers when they set them up, so you can access those. Those are especially dangerous, though; some people purposefully set up unencrypted access points to steal people's information. [ theymos's advice column | Ask theymos A Question ]
