torn ACL. it's my senior year of high school and i play(ed) soccer. sept. 1st, in a game, i collided with an opponent and it ended up tearing my ACL (the biggest, most important ligament in your knee). i just started physical therapy last week, and today was the second time i've been. i have to have reconstructive surgery on it hopefully in early november.
my question is, for anyone who's completely torn their ACL, how long is recovery? i want to go to prom and have senior pictures taken and be able to live my life again, since i know soccer is out of the question. any info is appreciated (:

I know so many people who have torn their ACL. Every injury is different & so is every person, so recovery depends on a bunch of different situations. First off, it depends on how bad the tearing is. Some are much worse than others. Since you need reconstructive surgery, I'm guessing yours is a bit worse. Prom is far from now & since you're having it in early November, the chances that you'll be recovered by then seem pretty high. Just keep doing what your doctors are telling you to & you'll recover soon enough. With senior pictures & everything else, you'll just have to be patient & wait. Your health is far more important than any of those things. It's tough that it is your senior year & you don't get to play soccer, but healing your ACL is more important.

That website is very helpful & has a few FAQs. Check with your doctor about when you'll be able to return to your normal activities again. They'll probably be able to let you know after your surgery.
