Tampon problems

Question Posted Saturday September 8 2007, 4:00 pm

Um, well this question is not so much of a question...Im really scared of what im doing to my body..I've done somthing horribly wrong and I've always known that I've been hurting myself but I do it anyways...I've been using tampons in the wrong way. Um well first I masterbate (sorry I didn't know what else to say to replace that word) intirely wayyy too much, its an everday issue with me and its not that im desprate its just that im too shy to do any thing with a guy so I just....ya. Well since I've done that so much, I've had alot of discharge, it feels like Im always on my period and so thats why I use a tampon everyday and my mom found out because shes notice she buys them almost every other week..I've been doing this for over three years now I think or two years and over time I think its been messing me up becuase I've bled once lightly for a week and I had just quit and then I have odors and its all the time and it changes but its horrible and its extremly embarresing and thats also why I haven't done any thing with a guy..not that u needed to know that but... I still use tampons and I still have odors and heavy discharge and I do still get my period at regular times but I dont know whats wrong with me. My mom told me I could die if I kept doing this but I dont know what else to do. She wont take me to the doctor but she only forgets so its alright but she doesnt think that anythings wrong with me she just thinks I need to quite using them but I want to stop it. But I dont really want to go anyways. I just want to know if theres somthing I can do or if it will ever go away or if I may have something like a disease or sickness or any thing. The odor and heavy discharge happened like a year and a half ago but if you have any idea what may be wrong with me without me having to see a doctor that would be great or any thing I can do to stop it please and thank you for your time and helping me!

You need to see a doctor.

DO NOT USE A DOUCHE.

Once more, for effect: DO NOT DOUCHE.

Your poor vagina is probably already so raw, so over ridden with bad bacteria and so unhealthy that douching would only remove what little protection it has left and leave you exposed to all sorts of illnesses.

GO TO A DOCTOR.

I know that isn't the advice you want, but it's the only sensible advice anyone could give you.

It's very likely that you have interfered with your vagina's natural behavior to the point that you have developed an infection. Or at very least, have harmed your vagina to the point it needs medical attention and you need medical instruction on how to treat it properly.

Only a doctor will be able to tell you for certain if you are okay or not, and frankly, I don't think it's worth the risk of not being okay.

Some discharge is normal and is the way the vagina keeps itself healthy, but you haven't been letting your vagina keep itself healthy! If the discharge you have now is thick and smells bad that is very likely cause by some sort of bacterial infection, vaginosis would be my best guess, but since I've never heard of any women doing what you are doing before, you'll really need a doctor to tell you what is wrong. It could be something far more serious, and after being left so long, it could have spread.

Your mother is right. Using tampons like this could kill you. Toxic Shock Syndrome can happen when a tampon is left in too long, and that can kill you. You could also be causing infections that could easily spread to the surrounding organs or into your blood, and then those infections could kill you.

Stop it if you value your life.
Bacterial infections do not go away with a doctor's visit. Period. It won’t happen.
If you are sick, you will not just get better on your own.

If you don't see a doctor, you will likely just keep doing what you are doing, until one day it catches up with you and you find yourself in the emergency room. That will probably be a lot more embarrassing don’t you think? Well, it will be embarrassing if you survive.

Perhaps you could try using thin panty-liners instead of tampons to deal with the discharge and shower more often. Wearing pads or panty liners is only a slight improvement, but it would still be better then tampons. Whatever it takes to end this behavior, do it. Some women find trimming the hair on their out labia reduces the odor and discomfort, making it easier to feel clean.

You might also try confessing to your mother what a serious problem this has become, instead of pretending it's not big deal. It's your health. It is a big deal. Her help could be invaluable.

Take care of yourself, even if it's scary and uncomfortable, because no one else is going too.

If you wear tampons all the time, you never give your vagina a chance to breathe. It needs to air out. Not only that, but you're sucking up all the natural lubricants that regulate it by wearing tampons all the time. That's bad! Discharge is okay. It's actually a sign that you're healthy. If it makes your underwear wet, it makes your underwear wet. It's not a big deal. You'd probably be surprised to hear that every girl deals with that. Every girl gets discharge and masturbation has nothing to do with how much. As long as your underwear aren't soaked from it and you change them everyday, it's not a problem. If you do have an excessive amount of discharge and it really bothers you, use pantyliners, not tampons. Pantyliners are like mini pads. They're so small they're not going to cause any kind of discomfort for you and they're not inside your body so they won't mess up your vagina. If you don't stop using tampons when you don't have your period, you could end up with a serious infection. Right now, you're fine, but you won't be for long. Save yourself the embarrassment of having to go to a doctor and let your vagina do what it needs to do to stay healthy. Good luck. :)

Your body has discharge, its a normal way for your body to clean its self, when you use tampons it does leave a bit behind, you are causing your body to clean constantly, you may also have a piece left behind that is collecting discharge which in turn is causing odor, try checking yourself sometimes its very hard to find. stop using the tampons switch to pads, buy a douche at your local store they are very cheap around $2.00 all females atone point or another use them, most use them after a period, or sex to help clense the body they are very easy to use. if the discharge doesnt clear up or the odor, you must see a doctor, you can be seen at your local health department for free without your parents ever knowing, they are their for your complete privacy, they also provide medication free if needed and birthcontrol free. and please read about toxic shock syndrom on the pamplet in the tampon box. sorry you cant get your moms help i know the feeling, its not that she dont care, shes just not ready to face you growing up. Take care, i hope i helped BRIE

i don't think there's anything "wrong" with you because heavy discharge can be normal. i actually don't believe that masturbation affects amount of discharge, but if you want to find out for yourself, don't masturbate as much and see what happens. another alternative is to wear pads or pantiliners instead of tampons. i agree with your mom- that is dangerous to wear them all the time. if you really want to see if you can fix your problem, you can try to go to the doctor but you're not like having a medical emergency so it's not imperative. but just find a way around using tampons that much because you can get infections and stuff from having things like that inside of you that much.
