Homecoming dress

Question Posted Saturday September 8 2007, 1:44 pm

I have a really huge fear of showing up in the same dress as someone and it happened last year! I know it's almost impossible to find a dress that 600 other girls won't wear but I want to get one at a unique store. Not Macy's, JC Penney, Kohl's, Jessica McClintock, or Windsor. I just want to know some stores with good dresses.

Thanks.

Look for a store that only sells formal dresses. Alot of poeple get their dresses from department stores so there's a low chance that someone will actaully go to the same stores as you and an even lower chance that they will get the same dress. If you find that those kind of stores are too expensive then check out the vintage or thrift stores in your area. Goodwills sometimes have really really cute dresses. If you wanna go to Goodwill then try to find one in a wealthy area, they'll probably have great dresses.
hope that helped!

I don't know what stores are in your area, so I can't help you out there. But if you go to a store that sells strictly formal dresses, such as David's Bridal, they usually will register your dress, meaning they won't let anyone else from your school buy your dress. Just look up dress shops in the yellow pages to see what's in your area.

Now, you can try online, however, you won't be able to register your dress, so if you get one that is available in dress shops (a lot of them are, trust me) you won't have a promise that no one will have it.

Good luck =)

haha i know exactly what you mean, buying your dress at a store from the mall is one of the worst things you can do. i ended up showing up to one of my dances in the same exact dress and shoes as this other girl and she made a huge deal about it. but anyways, try shopping online, or at a store you know people are less likely to look in that still has pretty dresses(:

Try vintage stores, all the pieces are practically unique, although they can be expensive.

You could also try online.

There are a lot of services that can make dresses to measure and alter their designs for a unique dress.

Weird as it sounds, try eBay. My mum got married last year and there are amazing dresses all over eBay, you send the seller your measurements and they send you a perfectly fitting dress!!
Also they're from Hong Kong and it only took a couple of weeks for dresses to reach us in Britain!

My favourite method of getting a unique dress is making one, but if neither you or any of your famiy have experience in dress making, it'll be a bit too ambitious.

Have fun and good luck finding your dress xxx
