anxiety attacks?...

Question Posted Friday September 7 2007, 9:41 pm

im 15/f, and though i dont think i've ever had an anxiety attack, lately, when i feel uncomfortable, my body gets hot [specially my chest], and even though i take deep breaths i end up having to go outside to get some cold air. i sweat a little because of the heat but i dont tremble. i also feel my heart skip a beat and then beat faster, out of nowhere. i dont know what's wrong with me,i suffer from depression but i dont think this is serious, but i would still like some advice. thanks in advance =].

What you describe sounds like an anxiety attack,
but check with your doctor. If you are taking meds for your depression, there is a chance it is a side effect.

I have worked in an emergency room and I can give
you the high dollar treatment used on patients
to relieve an anxiety attack. Get a paper bag and breathe into it until you calm down. One of those
paper lunch bags would be great, and you can carry it with you. You're hyperventilating. Stop when you are breathing normally.

You still need to get with a doctor about it. They
can probably give you something to prevent having them at all. It would also be good for you to know the cause of them. :)

if you are suffering from anxiaty attacks, and it sounds like you are, your best bet is to go to the doctors and let them diagnos you. because it sounds like you might have some kind of anxiaty dissorder, and will need medication to prevent it. this is not something to worry about, and it is very common in woman, even teenage girls. so, please tell your parents about it. state your concern and plead your case that it would be your best bet to get treatment for this situation. all though it might not be serious at the time, anxiaty attacks, and panic attacks, can cause othe complications. so, go to the doctors, seek help, and try not to be too stressed out. and always remember to keep smiling.

You sound like you have anxiety, too. Anxiety and depression go hand in hand a lot of the time. That wasn't a panic attack, you just became anxious. When you're anxious it's normal for our chest to feel tight, feel either extremely cold/hot, and to get heart palpatations; it's nothing to worry about. It's good that when you feel that way you go outside, it's a way to deal with it. It's normal, but when you're feeling like that, try to stay calm. It could escalte into a panic attack if you don't calm, and you definitely don't want that to happen.

EDIT*

If it's really problematic, you could go to a doctor. But more realistically you don't have to unless this gets worse. And even if it did get worse, you'd probably be better off seeing a pshycatrist to get some medication in case you ever start to really panic. You don't have to let your Mom know if you aren't comfortable with it, but it's always good to have someone to confide in or to go to to help calm you down. But since your anxixety doesn't sound especially bad, you don't have to see a doctor/therapist or really let anyone know. Just keep doing what you're doing. (:
